Welcome to the Secret War

Shadowfist is the mile-a-minute, sword-clashing, butt-kicking, Uzi-spraying, boat-exploding, car-chasing, monster-crunching, Hong Kong cinematic action card game that is so epic it would take fourteen John Woos to film and a cast the likes of Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat and Michelle Yeoh. And that's just in the first five minutes!

It's like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hard Boiled, Drunken Master, Wing Chun, The Killer, Storm Riders, Heroic Trio, Iron Monkey, Supercop, Master Killer, Ballistic Kiss, and the rest of your favorite Hong Kong action films all rolled into one.

Equal opportunity butt kicking, baby!

Critical Shift is out and Shipping!

Some of you may already have noticed, but Critical Shift has already started shipping to stores and individual buyers, so for those of you who have been waiting for it to come out, it's here and available now. On a related note, those of you who were expecting to get promos with their shipment, you won't be finding them in your box deliveries. Allen Hege will be mailing out all the promos separately to the play-testers, Legion of Supporters members, and Critical Shift pre-orders, so be patient; he's got a lot of cards to ship out. So, the big news is: CRITICAL SHIFT IS NOW OUT! Pick up your packs and boxes, and start packing those decks with New World goodness!

New Store Exclusives with Critical Shift

I mentioned them in the previous news item, and there are pictures floating out on the web, but for those who haven't stumbled across them elsewhere, here are the 2 new store exclusive promos. Like the store exclusives from Shurikens and Six-Guns, these promos will only be available through retailers for the next year, so don't be bugging us about getting them. And now, without further ado, here's Noriko Watson, and the reprinted alternate art Sacred Heart Hospital.

A Quick Primer on Tournament Formats

There are a lot of tournament formats that have been invented for Shadowfist, and they all have names that sound cool, but aren't always as helpful as they might be. Here are how the official ones go:

Joining the Legion of Supporters (A Quick How to)

So, with Critical Shift coming out soon, I'm sure many of you are wondering about joining the Legion of Supporters and getting the nice, cash and points for Promo discounts. If you're already a member of the Secret War Society (SWS), with an account here on the Shadowfist site, it's easy. Just login, swing on over to the Secret War Society link at the top of your web page, and look over on the left side for the Join the Legion of Supporters link. Hit the link, add the Legion of Supporters to your shopping cart, update it, buy more stuff from us if you feel like it, and checkout. If, on the other hand, you're not a member of the SWS, do the same thing, just instead of hitting the Legion of Supporters link, hit the "joining the Secret War Society" link first, fill out all the fun information, then, once you're a member of the SWS, go ahead and join the Legion just like it's laid out above. Make sure you're logged in; the website gives you different options depending on whether or not you're actually logged in...

Card of the Week: Moonlight Raid

By Matt Dicksion

Moonlight Raid
Event
Cost: Asc Asc 0
Until end of turn, target Character you control gains Stealth and you gain 1 Power when that Character inflicts combat damage on the target of its attack.

Moonlight Raid presents a perfect example of a card that's easy to underestimate. The reason is simple: it looks just like Dirk Wisely's Gambit, only less powerful. When SSG was released, I saw Moonlight Raid and thought, that's nice--a half-Wisely Gambit that gives Stealth. And then I moved on. After all, it's not as though it provides anything completely new to the Ascended, who already have Stealth and alternate power in spades. It was only on closer inspection, and in actual play, that the real potential of Moonlight Raid became apparent. Yes, it's less powerful than Dirk's Gambit in some ways, but in other more subtle ways, it's much, much stronger.

Maximizing Card Synergy

By James Przytulski

Maximizing Card Synergy in Deck Design

When I build decks I attempt to fit the cards together in such a way
that I get maximum use out of every single card. This is not just pinpointed
for specific opponents in a metagame, but it is how synergistically the
cards fit together themselves.

For example, in the Colonel Wilhelm Reigner deck, I play battlegrounds
to pump soldiers. Battlegrounds make extremely long rows of Sites which
are difficult to defend. However, a couple soldier foundations can pop out
to defend during attacks. Assault Squad soldiers even pop into play for
