Secret Warrior's Guide to Non-Feng Shui Sites

The use of Non-Feng Shui Sites varies between metagames from being rarely played to being ubiquitous Feng Shui shields. Some are critical to theme decks, such as vehicles, Pledged, Face Offs, Manchu, and others. With approximately 85 Non-Feng Shui Sites in print there are many options for deck design. So look beyond the Family Estate, Bandit Hideout, and Secret Headquarters and find that perfect finishing touch for your new deck!

I have sorted Sites by the three key printed variables: Cost, Body, and Power Generated. Looking at the complete list of Sites in this manner was eye-opening for me.

* Police Station so clearly stands alone as a 1,10,0 one wonders how it got printed (and Cop players thank the heavens!).

* Ape City and Nuclear Power Plant suddenly seem underutilized as the sole 1,8,1 sites in print, arguably the best cost to body and body to power generation ratios.

* A close look at the 2,5,1 slot shows that this slot requires a strong ability to be playable; these sites are mostly either top tier or bottom tier with little in-between.

* The 2,6,1 slot almost entirely belongs to Senshi Chambers.

* The 3,8,1 slot strikes me as a graveyard of good ideas that are a bit overpriced/underpowered with the exceptions being the new Fire Pagoda and arguably Imperial Palace in a specific deck design. But at least the cards in this slot are better than the two in the 4,8,1 slot (which has, thankfully, been dormant since the original Netherworld expansion)!

Looking at the cards this way is also inspiring from a design point of view. You look at empty slots and wonder, what would a balanced 1,7,1 site look like? Is there a design that could make a 0,2,0 work? Or what about entirely unexplored territory, like a 4,12,2?

I hope you enjoy the list as much as I have.

Nukes get used a fair amount

Nukes get used a fair amount around here, but that whole "screw with your other sites" cost does tend to limit it some. Also, since it requires a resource to come out, it's not as attractive in some ways as the Family Estate, which generally gets a power back immediately with its special ability and doesn't require resources to play.

The 3/8/1 slot is an

The 3/8/1 slot is an interesting one -- with "almosts" like the Junkyard (-maybe- worth it if you're using multiple resources from it. Maybe), Imperial Palace and Fire Pagoda (both VM worth it, in my experience -- the Palace generates -3- power when it's fully operational even without the Hall of Brilliance). That said, I think a bunch of the cards in that slot are under-rated -- the Purist and Architects marquee sites are still pretty good (ok, the Purist one is pretty good. The Architects one is ok; the difference being the really good recycling ability vs a weak anti-state ability).

The remaining 3 cost pagodas are hard to rate -- the Ice Pagoda isn't all that good, but as a healing effect, isn't all that bad, either. I've had good results with the Darkness Pagoda -- it's a nice anti-mentor ability, and might be quite useful in a Darkness or Dark/Lot sacrifice deck. The Thunder Pagoda -should- be good -- it's a power multiplier, after all, but seems not to be. I wonder why.
