Article Submission Guide

Submission Guidelines for Website Articles

The Shadowfist web site is always in need of talented authors willing to contribute to the articles section of this site with their tournament reports, winning decks, strategy articles, or cool combos.

Submissions will fall under one of two categories: Reports and Strategy. Reports mainly are event, tournament or Proving Ground reports. These can be as detailed as you like. You can submit a complete play-by-play account of everything that happened on your trip to Origins, or you could just post your winning deck without comment, whatever you feel like. Editing of these articles will be minimal, restricted to spell-checking and grammar; these are your stories, after all. The Report strategy also includes the Playgroup introductions/summaries that Braz brought to life, or maybe an article about your favorite Shadowfist celebrity (players, not fictional characters; these of course will be sent to the person they are about, and won’t get published without their consent). Braz did one of these on Jan Malina in a past Kiii-YAAAH! issue.

The Strategy article type will be reviewed more stringently. This is supposed to be good play advice for new and experienced players. Don’t post any advice that you wouldn’t heed yourself. Don’t post deck recipes or combos that you haven’t tested. First off, before writing the strategy article, please contact us and let us know what you want to write about. We will usually have several articles in the pipeline to be able to publish one every week, and it would be a shame if you spent your time on something that has already been written. Strategy articles should be at least 800 words long. Card of the Week type articles always start out with reprinting the card text at the beginning. A CotW article should either deal with a niche card (such as The Red Harvest) and show how you can build good combos around it or affect play in interesting ways, or why it actually is a good card and should be played more often. Alternatively, a CotW can be about a powerful card and how it can be abused to maximum effect (The Willow Bends), and you should give a fairly exhaustive list of possibilities. Be specific and give examples, preferably multiple examples. Don’t be afraid to be verbose in the first draft; we will let you know after your first submission whether you need to write more or less. Strategy articles follow similar rules: try to be specific and give detailed examples that can be followed by new players as well. Strategy articles will usually deal with advice for beginners on deck construction and play. Another good angle for a strategy article is to look in detail at a complex Shadowfist mechanic (such as timing or redirection), explain how it works, and show some ways to take advantage of mechanism in play.

Finally, a few general guidelines: please try to submit articles that are written in good English. We will not read articles that have terrible grammar or spelling, and you will be asked to correct those before resubmitting. If at all possible, please send articles in Word directly to derchemiker@yahoo.com; this makes the editing process so much easier

We look forward to your submissions!
